Four Common Affiliate Marketing Mistakes Part 2
There are two more common affiliate marketing mistakes to avoid. These are pretty common and easy to make, and if you can avoid them, you just may go on to be successful.
3. Promoting Only One Product
The third common mistake with affiliate marketers is promoting only one product.
What typically happens is that a marketer finds a product they like, and all their energy and effort is devoted to promoting one thing. And they usually do this with only one website.
So what is the problem with this?
The problem with this approach is that you are not giving your potential customers enough options to choose from. Your market for a particular niche, responds differently to different products, different promotions, different websites, different salesletters....
People come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, and different social and economic conditions. To market products well, you have to learn how to promote the same solution through various products and promotions.
Take for example, bar soap.
Aren't all brands of bar soap generally the same? Bar soap provides the same solution - it washes away dirt. But look at the variety of bar soaps in the marketplace, and observe the advertising and promotions you see around you...the manufacturers are promoting the same solution (bar soap) to many different markets or niches within that marketplace.
It is always better to have multiple websites promoting different products and solutions for the same problem.
Give your market alternatives.
And diversification across different product lines protects your business.
What would happen to your business if you spend all your time, effort, and money promoting a single product, and for some reason, the merchant or publisher removes the product from the marketplace?
Then you are screwed. Big time.
But if you are promoting 10 different products across 10 different websites, and a single product is pulled from the marketplace, your business and your ability to make cash flow that month is protected.
The solution?
To build a real business over the long term, promote more than one product to the marketplace using more than one website.

4. Promoting Too Many Products
The fourth common mistake that affiliate marketers make, is the flip side of the previous error - promoting way too many products on a single website.
If you promote too many products about too many different solutions to too many problems, your potential customers will end up being confused.
And a confused mind cannot make decisions.
Except to hit the backspace key on the keyboard....
Your website should focus on a single problem. Yes, offer different products in that website, but all the products should somehow relate to that single problem.
For example, say you are targeting the pet health care niche. You do your research, and build a website around dog health. You find pet health related products to promote and put them on your website. All is good so far. Then you find a killer product about the 'make money working from home' niche....and the affiliate commissions are huge....what do you think would be the response if you promoted the 'work at home' niche product on your dog health website?
Your commissions from your dog health products would be impacted...and you would get very few sales from your 'work at home' product.
Why?
Because you have confused your visitor, and you have not paid attention to what the website visitor wants.
This is very important, so pay attention.
Your market will tell you what they want. You just have to listen.
Your dog health website visitors are concerned, maybe even anxious about the health of their dog. At the moment they are visiting your website, do you even think that they are thinking about making money at home? Emotionally, what is going through their mind? Concern. Worry. Love for their pet.
Honor and respect your website visitors.
They came to your website looking for something ....they are looking for an answer to their problem. Provide that specific answer to their specific problem....with your affiliate link of course.
The solution?
Avoid this mistake by promoting several products around a single solution or related topic to that solution that your market is searching for.
There is actually one more common mistake that affiliate marketers make.
And this mistake is so common and so fatal to your potential business, that I have made it a topic with it's own page.
